Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing
4 tablespoons dry parsley flakes
1 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons onion salt (or 1 T. onion powder)
1 teaspoon garlic salt (or 1/2 t. garlic powder)
1 teaspoon salt (may add more, to taste, if making the adjustments above)
1 quart mayonnaise
1 pint sour cream
1 pint buttermilk
Combine all ingredients. Allow flavors to blend overnight. Reduce recipe in half if desired.
Makes a lot but stores well chilled for a few weeks. Use for salads or any other recipes requiring a ranch dressing.
Variation: Outback Steakhouse's Ranch Salad Dressing
1 teaspoon of the dry ingredients above
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon coarse grind black pepper
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or paprika, for milder flavor)
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt to taste
Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Mix well.
Cover bowl and chill dressing for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Makes 1 1/2 cups.
